Questions Not to be Asked
The following are some questions that are most disliked by employers. Do not ask them; they will make you sound uninformed and diminish your likability.
- What does this company do? You should have done your research well enough to know exactly what the company does. Asking this question will make you appear uninformed and unqualified. Employers are not looking for employees who know nothing about their business!
- How much sick leave and vacation time will I get? Do not ask this question during a first interview. Although employee benefits are important, asking specifically about vacation time or sick leave projects a negative attitude. You should ask this question before making a final decision about a job offer, however. Employers understand the importance of major benefits to prospective employees.
- Will I have an office? This suggests that you care more about where you will work than about what you will do.
- What time do I have to be at work in the morning? How long do you give for lunch? These questions sound immature and do not project an enthusiastic interest in the work!
- How long do I have to work before I am eligible for a raise? This question tells the employer that you are more interested in the salary than the job.
